Convention Center Expansion Moves Forward
Charlotte City Council approved the project financing for the $110 million Charlotte Convention Center expansion on Nov. 26, another critical step forward for the venue that will add flexible meeting space, a pedestrian bridge and additional amenities.
The 550,000-square-foot Charlotte Convention Center, which currently features 280,000 square feet of exhibit space and 126,500 square feet of meeting and ballroom space, will begin work on the expansion beginning in spring 2019 and will be available for contracting in spring 2021. The Convention Center will remain open and be able to accommodate groups in the unaffected meeting and exhibit spaces.
